Scrap Specifications

Scrap deliveries shall be "Alloy Free." Shipments will contain only single source material.

Shipments must not contain:

  1. non-ferrous metals or non-metallics
  2. galvanized or zinc coated materials
  3. closed or sealed containers
  4. excessive oil, dirt, rust or moisture
  5. paint, rags, cardboard, paper or garbage
  6. radioactive materials or open containers labeled Radioactive "Alloy Free" shall be defined as:
    Carbon.45% Max
    Manganese.50% Max *
    Phosphorous.04% Max
    Sulfur.05% Max
    Silicon.10% Max
    Copper.10% Max
    Nickel.05% Max
    Chromium.05% Max
    Molybdenum.05% Max
    Tin.06% Max
    Lead.005% Max

    * Manganese is a critical element. Values as low as possible.

    Random pieces of scrap from a load will be picked, assigned a sample number, and chemically evaluated. When applicable, suspicious pieces of scrap shall also be sampled.

    Prior to dumping, a Bill of Lading, including scrap vendors name, description of material, purchase order number, and tare, net and gross weights must be presented. All deliveries are subject to visual inspection and weight verification upon request of receiver.

    All delivery vehicles must be in safe operating condition and the driver must operate the vehicle in a safe manner.

    If a scrap load is of questionable conformance, the Head Melter shall inspect the load and deem it acceptable, down graded or rejected.
